The Kallakurichi Co-operative Sugar Mill has planned to crush 3.35 lakh tonnes of sugarcane during the 2025-26 crushing season, said Tourism Minister R. Rajendran on Thursday.
The Minister, who inspected the cooperative sugar mill at Moongilthuraipattu, reviewed the functioning of the mill with officials.
A total of 28,228 farmers were registered with the sugar mill. About 2,62,664 tonnes of sugarcane were crushed during the 2024-25 season and the average recovery rate stood at 8.37%, he said.
Sugarcane raised on 9,273 acres has been registered with the mill and the authorities have planned to crush 3.35 lakh tonnes of sugarcane in the current season.
Mr. Rajendran said the Tamil Nadu government had disbursed ₹1,145 crore as special incentive during the last four years to over 6 lakh sugarcane farmers who had supplied cane to sugar mills in the State. Steps will be taken to regularise the services of temporary workers attached to the cooperative sugar mill in Kallakurichi and to improve facilities in the mill, he said.
