CBI probe: HC issues notices to Centre

Vijayawada: The high court on Wednesday issued notices to the Union govt in the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition filed seeking directions for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the illegal processing of cotton by the Cotton Corporation of India. The petition alleged that the Union govt has incurred a loss of Rs 6,889 crore between 2014 and 2024.
One V Padma from Hyderabad moved the HC contending the CCI is processing the cotton procured from farmers under MSP scheme, which is contrary to the guidelines issued by the ministry of agriculture.

According to the guidelines, CCI must sell the cotton as it was procured, she argued. The CCI has shown unauthorised expenditure in the last 10 years on the processing of cotton, which it is not supposed to do according to the norms.
