Kirloskar Oil Engines Limited (KOEL) has launched the world’s first ethanol and isobutanol-powered engine technology for genset applications, evaluated by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI). The unveiling, officiated by the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, comes as part of the government’s drive to promote alternative fuels for energy independence and environmental sustainability.
The launch, timed around World Biofuel Day, underscores KOEL’s focus on clean power solutions and alignment with India’s energy diversification goals. The new engines feature advanced combustion systems that sharply cut greenhouse gas emissions, run on renewable biofuels to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and deliver robust performance across industrial and commercial applications. KOEL has also integrated eco-friendly production practices to minimise resource use in manufacturing.
By introducing renewable fuel technology into its engine portfolio, KOEL aims to provide industries, businesses and communities with reliable, low-carbon power while supporting the government’s initiatives to boost clean energy and curb oil imports. The company reaffirmed its mission to “innovate for a limitless future” through sustainable engineering and technology leadership.
