The Karnataka State Sugarcane Farmers’ Association has urged the Centre to increase the Statutory Advisory Price (SAP) for sugarcane for the ensuing year and to take strict measures to prevent sugar mills from cheating the farmers over the sugar recovery rate.
The president of the association Hallikerehundi Bhagyaraj told reporters on Tuesday that the sugarcane harvesting season for the current year has concluded and urged the government to ensure that farmers received at least ₹5,000 a tonne, including the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) fixed by the Centre and amount earned by the sugar mills through molasses, ethanol, and other byproducts.
