USDA: Corn use for fuel ethanol expands in June

The USDA recently released its Grain Crushings and Co-Products  Production report for August, reporting that corn use for fuel alcohol production in June way up when compared to both the previous month and June 2024. 

Total corn consumed for alcohol and other uses was 498 million bushels in June, up slightly when compared to the previous month, but down slightly from June of last year. Usage included 92.1% for alcohol and 7.9% for other purposes. 

Corn consumed for fuel alcohol reached 448 million bushels in June, up 1% when compared to May and up slightly when compared to June 2024. Corn consumed for dry milling fuel production and wet milling fuel production was 92% and 8%, respectively. 

At dry mills, condensed distillers solubles production was at 114,826 tons in June, down from 123,543 tons the previous month, but up from 106,473 tons in June of last year. Corn oil production expanded to 202,101 tons, up from both 193,785 tons in May and 186,820 tons in June 2024. Distillers dried grains production was at 363,604 tons, down from 370,515 tons the previous month, but up from 353,837 tons in June of the previous year. Distillers dried grains with solubles production expanded to 1.88 million tons, up rom 1.78 million tons in May and 1.8 million tons in June 2024. Distillers wet grains production was 1.21 million tons, down from 1.23 million tons the previous month, but up from 1.12 million tons in June of last year. Modified distillers wet grains production was at 381,861 tons, down from 442,278 tons the previous month, but up from 379,426 tons in June 2024. 

At wet mills, corn germ meal production was at 56,142 tons in June, up from 54,160 tons the previous month, but down from 60,015 tons in June 2024. Corn gluten feed production fell to 249,867 tons, down from both 264,725 tons in May and 272,101 tons in June of last year. Corn gluten meal production fell to 105,998 tons, down from 110,597 tons the previous month and 113,544 tons in June 2024. Wet corn gluten feed production fell to 187,424 tons, down from 200,541 tons in May and 197,847 tons in June of last year. 

At dry and wet mills, carbon dioxide captured was at 250,897 tons in June, down from 260,129 tons in May, but up from 218,468 tons in June 2024.
