Clear pending dues to sugarcane farmers, Mandya DC warns sugar factories

Deputy Commissioner of Mandya Kumar has cautioned sugar factories in the district to clear pending dues to the sugarcane farmers at the earliest.

At a meeting with officials in Mandya on Monday, Mr. Kumar said complaints had been received from farmers who claimed that sugar factories were not paying them their dues.

He said the sugar factories should make payments to farmers within 14 days of receiving sugarcane and must also submit a status report on the payment made.

He directed the officials to monitor the payments made by sugar factories to the farmers and issue notices to factories that had defaulted in their payment.

He issued a warning that strict action will be taken against the sugar facotries if they failed to make the payment mandatorily within 14 days. “Under no circumstances should farmers be made to run from pillar to post for their payments,” he warned.

Joint Director of Department of Food and Civil Supplies Prateek Hegde, Assistant Director Srinivas, Manager Renuka and other officials were also present at the meeting.
