Fortis Energy Expands Portfolio with Major Solar and Energy Storage Project in Serbia

Fortis Energy has announced the acquisition of a significant 180 MW (AC) solar project with an integrated Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Sremska Mitrovica, Serbia. This solar power plant, which will also feature a substantial energy storage system, is set to become one of the largest of its kind in Southeast Europe.

The project includes a planned 36 MW/h BESS, designed to store and manage electrical energy, enhancing the reliability and integration of renewable energy sources into the grid. Construction is slated to commence in 2025.

Fortis Energy’s investment underscores its ongoing commitment to advancing the energy transition. The acquisition enhances Fortis’s already extensive and adaptable renewable energy portfolio across the Balkans and Türkiye, solidifying its position as a key provider of flexibility solutions in the European market.
