Joint Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Swachh Bharat Mission, Rupa Mishra inspected the operations of the Bio-CNG (biogas) and biomining plants at the Kapuluppada dumping yard under Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) limits on Thursday. She was accompanied by GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg and other officials.
During her inspection, the Joint Secretary enquired about when the biogas plant operations would commence, the daily gas production capacity, the pricing structure, and the process of waste collection to feed the biogas plant.
CEO of Vizag Bio Energy Fuel Pvt. Ltd, K.S. Raju informed that the plant receives 30 tonnes of vegetable and food waste daily and produces around 1,000 kg of Bio-CNG (Compressed Natural Gas). He added that 30,000 litres of Liquid Fermented Organic Manure (LFOM) is produced daily and supplied to farmers and GVMC to develop the urban gardens. Additionally, about 4 tonnes of solid manure is generated daily and supplied to farmers for organic farming. He further informed that Phosphorus Rich Organic Manure (PROM) is being developed on a trial basis for market release.
The Joint Secretary, after inspecting the biogas plant’s waste-processing mechanism and various organic manures produced, advised the GVMC Commissioner to initiate further measures to enhance plant operations.
Upon inquiring about the total quantity processed so far, officials informed that out of the 14 lakh tonnes of legacy waste, only 3 lakh tonnes remain to be processed. She appreciated the ongoing biomining operations but suggested exploring further improvements. She directed that the remaining biomining activities be completed by the end of February 2026 and expressed satisfaction with the overall functioning of both the biogas and biomining plants.
