The gigawatt-scale Zeevonk green hydrogen project, being developed in the Netherlands by a joint venture between Vattenfall and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, will be scaled down in capacity and postponed to the early-2030s as part of a permit revision for the upstream IJmuiden Ver Beta offshore wind farm.
In a letter to the Dutch parliament, the minister for climate and green growth, Sophie Hermans, explained that the joint venture had informed the government it was no longer feasible to work towards the original plan of 1GW of electrolyser capacity, powered by 2GW of offshore wind and 50MW of offshore solar, up and running by late 2029.
The Zeevonk joint venture specifically blamed the delay of the Delta Rhine Corridor, a network of pipelines that was originally set to be commissioned by 2028 and is now delayed to 2032 at the earliest.
