One of the clean hydrogen industry’s most well-known commentators stunned a green H2 conference in London this week by telling delegates that they should not produce green hydrogen if they care about the climate.
Michael Liebreich — the British analyst, engineer and investor who founded BloombergNEF and is the creator of the famous Hydrogen Ladder that ranks H2 use cases by sector— was interviewed on stage at the FT Hydrogen Summit in a session that turned into a tirade against the green hydrogen industry.
After telling the audience that he has been called “the Hannibal Lecter of hydrogen”, he stated: “Over the years, there have been plenty of people saying [green] hydrogen is not a good fuel, it’s not going to be doing heating, it’s not going to be doing transport, and I’ll be quite honest, now I think... it’s not even going to do ammonia.
