India Achieves Milestone In RE Generations: Solar And Wind Power Lead The Way With 93.62% In June 2024

In June 2024, India achieved a significant milestone in its renewable energy sector, with solar power contributing nearly half of the nation’s renewable energy output. Solar energy alone accounted for 49.65% of the total renewable generation, reflecting India’s robust commitment to sustainable energy. The country’s total installed renewable capacity, excluding hydropower, reached 148.084 GW.

The rapid growth of solar power is evident with an installed capacity of 85.474 GW. This expansion is largely driven by supportive government initiatives and policies promoting clean energy. Wind energy also played a crucial role, making up 43.96% of the renewable energy generation with a total output of 10,134.92 million units for the month. Wind energy’s installed capacity stands at 46,656.37 MW, showcasing India’s extensive wind resources and ongoing investments in wind projects.

Biomass, bagasse, and small hydroelectric projects contributed 5.37% to renewable energy generation in June. This diversification helps reduce the nation’s reliance on fossil fuels. Total renewable energy generation, excluding hydropower, reached 23,052.28 million units, highlighting the progress in expanding renewable infrastructure and integrating these sources into the grid.

India’s focus on renewable energy aligns with global sustainability goals and climate change mitigation efforts. By prioritizing solar, wind, and other renewable sources, India aims to lower carbon emissions, enhance energy security, and stimulate economic growth. The growth of solar and wind power in June reflects the success of government incentives and technological advancements, which have made clean energy more accessible and cost-effective.

Looking forward, India has set ambitious targets to achieve 500 GW of renewable capacity by 2030. Addressing challenges like grid integration and financing will be crucial to maintaining this progress. Collaboration between government, industry, academia, and civil society will be essential in realizing India’s renewable energy potential.

The dominance of solar and wind power in June 2024 signifies a major step towards a cleaner, more sustainable energy future. This shift not only addresses climate concerns but also promotes economic development and energy security. As renewable capacity continues to grow, especially in solar, India reinforces its position as a global leader in renewable energy. The integration of storage technologies will further enhance the role of renewables as a stable power source, driving India towards a greener and more resilient economy for future generations.
