Mysugar sets a target of crushing 4.5 lakh tonnes of sugarcane during 2025-26

The State-owned Mysore Sugar company in Mandya, also known as Mysugar, is aiming to crush 4.5 lakh metric tonnes during the year 2025-26.

MLA for Mandya P. Ravikumar announced the factory’s target for the year at a function organised to light the boiler on the sugar mill premises on Monday to mark the start of the crushing operations this year.

It may be mentioned here that the operations at the Mysugar remained suspended for several years till it was revived in 2023 with a financial assistance of ₹50 crore from the government and produced 1.68 lakh quintals of sugar by crushing 2.41 lakh metric tonnes of sugarcane during 2023-24.

Subsequently, the sugar mill set a target of crushing 2.5 lakh metric tonnes for the year 2024-25 and achieved about 75,000 tonnes of sugarcane till September 2024.

After sharing the ambitious target of crushing 4.5 lakh metric tonnes during 2025-26, Mr. Ravi said the Chairman of Mysugar C.D. Gangadhar had submitted a proposal to the State government to release ₹28 crore as working capital for the factory.

He said that the factory cannot be operated solely on calculations of profit and loss. However, he expressed confidence that the government-owned sugar factory, currently in a loss-making state, will eventually get out of the red and become profitable.

The factory needs time and opportunity to make a turnaround, he said.

C.D. Gandadhar, Deputy Commissioner Kumar, and other officials were present on the occasion.
