State unveils vision for biofuel growth

Patna: The department of industries on Tuesday hosted the ‘Bihar Biofuel Dialogues 2025' at a hotel here, marking the formal launch of the much-anticipated ‘Biofuel Production Promotion (Amended) Policy 2025'.

Speaking at the event, state industries minister Nitish Mishra said the state's policy on biofuel was aimed at fostering innovation, attracting investment and encouraging enterprise. "It not only showcases the state's commitment to green energy but also opens new avenues for farmers. Bihar is poised to become one of the leading states in biofuel production soon. This policy is a major step toward the PM's vision of a Viksit Bharat," he said.

Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary stressed the importance of alternatives like compressed biogas (CBG). "The time is ripe to realise the ‘Waste to Wealth' vision, which will yield economic, environmental and social benefits for the state. This policy will serve as a strong foundation toward a greener Bihar in the coming years," he said.

Earlier, additional chief secretary (industries), Mihir Kumar Singh, highlighted the potential for biofuel production in Bihar, particularly CBG, and the expected impact of the new policy. "CBG production in Bihar will promote green energy and benefit farmers, entrepreneurs and the environment alike. The amendments in the policy offer clear direction and incentives to investors," he said.

According to officials, there are currently 12 ethanol production units operational in Bihar, with a combined production capacity of 1,617.5 kilolitres per day.
