A section of sugar mill workers, claiming wage disparity, have called upon Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to make a statement under Rule 110 on the Floor of the Legislative Assembly to bring the long-pending issue to an end.
According to Pugazhendi, a member of the Tamil Nadu All Cooperative and Public Sector Sugar Mill Staff Peravai, Thanjavur, the Commissioner of Sugar, through a GO in 1985, brought 11 posts under the “Common Cadre System” in the sugar industry. However, the CCS was abolished in 1997 but the workers of 11 posts declared as CCS category workers continued to receive the Government Pattern of Wages as against the wage pattern adopted for other categories of workers classified under the Central Non-Statutory Sugar Wage Board / Settlement Wage Pattern.
