Sungrow Hydrogen launches green hydrogen production with hybrid electrolyser system

Sungrow Hydrogen has begun producing green hydrogen in Hubei, China, by integrating alkaline and PEM electrolysers in joint operation.

A 200 Nm³/hr PEM electrolyser and a 1,000 Nm³/hr alkaline electrolyser have been deployed to jointly produce hydrogen for the transportation sector, including fuelling hydrogen-powered buses operating locally.

Additionally, Sungrow will explore the use of abandoned mines for underground hydrogen storage in China. In an online statement, Sungrow said, “The underground hydrogen storage solution sets a new benchmark for future green hydrogen developments worldwide.”

AI-driven systems will also optimise renewable power matching and real-time safety control.

Sungrow Hydrogen has played an active role in advancing China’s hydrogen market through its involvement in a range of hydrogen-focused initiatives.

Last September, its alkaline electrolyser began operating at the Shanxi Yulin Coal Chemical Industry Base, capable of producing 1,200 Nm³/hr.

Last month, the electrolyser-making subsidiary of Sungrow announced it would supply around 96MW of alkaline electrolysers to a major hydrogen-based e-methanol project in Inner Mongolia.
