Swadeshi Cotton Mill ramp Track laying work begins from Kanpur Central to Swadeshi Cotton Mill ramp

Kanpur: Track laying work has commenced in the approximately 3 km long underground section between Kanpur Central and Swadeshi Cotton Mill Ramp. This forms part of the Balance section (Kanpur Central–Naubasta) of Corridor-1 of the Kanpur Metro project.

In this process, rail tracks and FBW (Flash Butt Welding) plant were lowered near the Swadeshi Cotton Mill ramp, and thereafter, welding operations work started. Under track construction, 18-metre-long rails are being joined together. After welding, concrete slabs will be cast at fixed intervals, over which derailment guards and the Third Rail will later be installed.

Head Hardened Rails are being used for track construction in the Kanpur Metro. Such rails are also used in high-speed freight corridors. Compared to conventional rails, these are more durable, harder, and have a longer lifecycle. Being part of a ballastless track system, they require minimal maintenance and ensure smoother train operations.
