USDA: US biodiesel imports continue to fall in April

The U.S. exported 21,545.9 metric tons of biodiesel and biodiesel blends of B30 and greater in April, according to data released by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service on June 4. U.S. imports of biodiesel were at 4,417.3 metric tons for the month.

The 21,545.9 metric tons of biodiesel exported in April was up when compared to the 15,076 metric tons exported in March, but down when compared to the 60,273.9 metric tons exported in April 2024. 

The U.S. exported biodiesel to approximately five countries in April. Canda was the top destination for U.S. biodiesel exports at 17,259 metric tons, followed by Peru at 3,823 metric tons and Germany at 411.1 metric tons. 

The value of U.S. biodiesel exports reached $23.21 million in April, up from $15.08 million the previous month, but down from $84.58 million in April of last year. 

Total U.S. biodiesel exports for the first four month of this year reached71,867.8 metric tons at a value of $91.2 million, compared to 153,423.7 metric tons exported during the same period of last year at a value of $217.28 million.

The 4,417.3 metric tons of biodiesel and biodiesel blends of B30 or greater imported in April was down when compared to both the 14,991.9 metric tons imported in March and the 207,932.6 metric tons imported in April 2024.

The U.S. imported biodiesel from approximately three countries in April. Canda was the top source of U.S. biodiesel imports at 4,328.8 metric tons, followed by France at 73.2 metric tons and Belgium-Luxembourg at 15.3 metric tons. 

The value of U.S. biodiesel imports fell to $3.78 million in April, down from $12.32 million the previous month and $289.11 million in April 2024.

Total U.S. biodiesel imports for the first four months of 2025 reached 51,296.6 metric tons at a value of $44.03 million, compared to 672,275.4 million metric tons imported during the same period of last year at a value of $942.7 million.
