The Annamayya district administration has commenced the distribution of quality rice to all government schools and welfare hostels under the PM Poshan–Dokka Seethamma Mid-Day Meal scheme from Thursday, following the reopening of schools.
Speaking to the media, District Joint Collector Adarsh Rajendran said that around 19,000 rice bags weighing 25 kg each have already supplied to as many as 2,009 government schools and 171 welfare hostels across the district.
“To strictly curb the menace of diversion of the stocks and to maintain transparency, the rice bags are equipped with QR codes and GPS tracking system. Scanning the code will display details such as the source farmer and the mill. Issues about the quality of rice can be traced forthwith and such gaps be filled with technology,” he said.
The Joint Collector also prompted a live demonstration of the QR code scan module during the media briefing, at the Collectorate here. Senior officials from the departments of Revenue, Civil Supplies, Panchayat Raj, and Education took part in the meeting.
