The Food and Civil Supplies Department has seized 55 qunitals of Anna Bhagya rice stored in a private shop in Bommarabettu village, Udupi district, on Tuesday, June 10.
Acting on a tip-off, Udupi food inspector Sudhir raided the Prabhu General Store owned by one Vasudeva Prabhu in Mambettu of Bommarabettu village. The official found rice stored in 131 plastic bags kept in the shop without any permit. Suspecting the shop keeper has bought the rice distributed to Anna Bhagya beneficiaries and kept them to sell at a higher price, the official seized the rice. Hiriyadka police have registered a case and are investigating.
