E.I.D. Parry Sugars keen to leverage TNAU technologies for sustainable sugarcane cultivation

E.I.D. Parry Sugars has expressed keenness to leverage the benefits of the innovations made by Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) in sustainable sugarcane cultivation.

A team from the industry recently studied the cutting-edge research and innovative techniques developed for sugarcane cultivation, sugar recovery processes, and the development of newer sugarcane varieties, with a special focus on disease resistance and tissue culture sugarcane.

The team of agronomists and research scientists led by Abdul Hakeem Ashiq J, Chief Operating Officer of E.I.D. Parry (India) Ltd for sugar and allied businesses, visited the Centre for Plant Molecular Biology (CPMB) and Biotechnology and learnt about the pioneering research activities for scaling up sugarcane yield, disease resistance, and improving quality.

The team engaged in a discussion focusing on the latest advancements in genetic improvement, sugar recovery technologies, and sustainable cultivation practices designed to enhance productivity while minimising environmental impact.

The industry will shortly sign a memorandum of understanding for research cooperation, N. Senthil, Director of CPMB and Biotechnology, TNAU, said. Joint activities envisage leveraging expertise to drive innovation and sustainability in the sugarcane sector, Prof. Senthil said.
